Lamu is about 400km North East of Mombasa along the shores of the Indian Ocean. It is an ancient coastal Town which dates back to 12th -14th Century.
It is gazetted as monument city by the National Museums of Kenya in 1993 and as a world Heritage SITE by UNESCO in 2000 and therefore holds annual cultural festival. There is also annual religious festival during which there is MAULID celebrations to mark the Birth of Prophet Muhammad.
During such celebrations the following is featured:- Donkey race, Dhow race, Swimming competition, Traditional dance, Bao game, etc.
